In a video on his Instagram account, Adam Mosseri made it clear that Instagram does not listen to people’s conversations through their phone microphones.
He said, “We do not listen to you. We do not use the phone’s microphone to eavesdrop on you.” Mosseri explained that Instagram ads feel accurate because of the data people share online, their activity across websites, and information from advertisers—not because of audio spying. He added that sometimes ads may seem linked to recent conversations due to coincidence or memory, but there is no secret listening involved.
